Become a Simulation Operations Specialist

Healthcare simulation is one of the fastest-growing areas in healthcare education. Behind every simulation lab, virtual reality experience, clinical skills session, and high-fidelity patient simulator is a team of professionals who design, operate, maintain, and evaluate these learning experiences. The STEPS pathway has been designed to help students progressively develop the knowledge, skills, and experience needed to contribute to this exciting field. Beginning with SIMU 1000, students explore the foundations of healthcare simulation and then advance through increasingly applied coursework, experiential learning, work-integrated learning, and optional research opportunities. Upon completion of the pathway, students will have developed competencies aligned with the role of a Simulation Operations Specialist (SOS) — a n individual who supports healthcare education, innovation, patient safety, and simulation-based learning across academic and healthcare environments.

  • Start with one course.
  • Build a pathway.
  • Join healthcare simulation workforce.

SIMU 1000 → SIMU 2000 → SIMU 3000 → SIMU 3050 → SIMU 4000 → SIMU 4050 → Simulation Operations Specialist (SOS)

Current Status

The STEPS (Simulation Technologies, Educational Principles, and Safety) Minor is currently undergoing final university approval processes.

While the minor has not yet received formal approval, students can already begin the pathway through the SIMU course sequence.

Students who complete SIMU courses may be eligible to have those courses recognized toward the STEPS Minor if and when final approval is granted, subject to university regulations and approval requirements.
